DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
This week we dug deeper into theme and learned about writing theme statements. Our theme statement equation is: what the author believes about a topic + text evidence= theme statement. These theme statements help us move our thinking beyond one word themes. Next week we'll be reviewing summary writing and including the theme in our summary. We are doing our final round of revision to our personal narratives. We discussed revising the structure and development of our piece and editing the conventions in our writing. Please check out our "Daily Recap" button on Schoology for more information on this week's lessons.
We are moving right along with our personal narratives. This week we talked about the exposition and how to incorporate exposition bits throughout our narratives and next week we will continue to move forward. We will look at dialogue, description and more. We are taking our time through this unit so we can truly understand each step.

Students will be using repurposed and natural materials to create their functional work of art. Keep collecting materials.
We've had a great week learning to play Afoxé, a Brazilian percussion ensemble and students spent the week planning a virtual trip to Brazil to help us understand the culture and context of the music we're studying. They have also been researching folk songs from their cultural heritage to share. Next week we will continue our study of cultural heritage and how music connects people and builds community.
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.
