Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
Club Information - Club information is coming for GMS and KMS! Information will be posted on our site and in our Team 6-5 course on Schoology.

RLA Music Classes -As promised, the HS instrumental teachers have been working to put together a site with resources for MS RLA orchestra and band students.
Strings: https://sites.google.com/dublinschools.net/dcsorchestra
KMS Orchestra: In addition, HERE is the link to the list of material that we are covering in the Karrer Orchestra Classes.
The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can choose to go to for materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not part of the graded curriculum, but an extension opportunity that students could take advantage of while in RLA. It is optional for families and designed to help them continue to grow in band and orchestra during the pandemic. Thank you!

DCS Flu Shots
Free flu shots will be available to students this school year. You can view the schedule and required forms at this link.
RLA students may go to any school for their flu shots. Families may take all students to one building. The second form needs to be completed and taken with you on the day of the flu shot.
This week students continued working on writing strong responses with text evidence. We also began our study of Notice and Note signposts as strategies to help us analyze texts. Next week we will be launching into our narrative writing unit. Students are encouraged to "rehearse" their story idea by sharing it out loud with someone to help them start drafting. Please encourage your child to complete or revise any incomplete assignments as the quarter is ending soon.
What another wonderful week. Don't forget to stop by Karrer MS (Room 266's window) to grab your Notice and Note Signposts Flipbook. We continue to work through the six signposts and will wrap it up this coming week. Thank you everyone for working hard and let's finish this quarter STRONG!
We will be finishing up our LCM and GCF exploration this week. The students will then begin to think about positive rational numbers.

Underwater sea life pieces are due Monday, October 12th. For our final project in art, we will be creating a found alphabet photography collage!
We are in our last 2 weeks of art for this semester. Students are busy planning and drawing their ideas for their narrative artwork. Ask your child: “What’s your story”? They all had the opportunity to explore the use of collage in a “mini word collage, art challenge”.
We have worked very hard this week on getting ready to make a virtual music ensemble video for each music class. Each class chose a song and worked to learn instrument or singing parts to contribute. When all the videos are compiled together, we will have a class ensemble! Next week we will focus on in depth study of music traditions and cultures from all over the world.
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.

This week we continued our study of music theory. We learned about the notes of the piano and collaborated with friends using chrome music lab shared piano. We also listened to and discussed music from Puerto Rico, Syria, and India. Next week, we will wrap up our quarter by researching and sharing folk songs that have been passed down through our own cultures.
Students began our Rock Unit this week. They created their pet rocks to keep them company while learning about rocks. For next week on Wednesday, 10/14/20, students will need at least 2 slices of bread and a few pieces of a hard small candy. The slices of bread need to be different colors such as a piece of white bread and a piece of wheat bread or something similar. Later in the week, it would be helpful for students to have 2 small chunks of play-doh or clay of different colors. We will use the supplies to learn more about sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

Next week in science we will be starting our unit on Rocks and the Rock Cycle. We will start out with classifying rocks and the three different types of rocks. Also, each student will be getting their own pet next week (hope that's okay with everyone:-).
Students are learning about geographical landforms. We also practiced note taking skills as we introduced the geographical landforms. This week, the students will apply their knowledge about geographical landforms and maps by creating their own maps.
We will continue our learning of the 5 world religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. We will be taking a look at where each religion originated. In addition to that we will identify the founding leader (if there was one) and any important books or writings associated with the religion.
