Dublin Arts Council is preparing for the 19th annual emerging exhibition of student artwork; and this time, the popular exhibition is all virtual, online at Artsonia.com. Click HERE for more information.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
DCS Flu Shots
Free flu shots will be available to students this school year. You can view the schedule and required forms at this link.
RLA students may go to any school for their flu shots. Families may take all students to one building. Be sure to complete the first form and return it 48 hours before the day of the shot to the school building where you want to get the flu shot. The second form needs to be completed and taken with you on the day of the flu shot.
We focused on analyzing characters and looking closely at plot events to help us determine the theme(s) of a text. In writing, we discussed how sensory details add more dimension to our writing. We are continuing to apply writing mini-lessons to revise our narrative drafts.
We continue our discussion of storytelling and/or personal narratives. We have looked at the story arc and what important parts must be included in our stories. Characters, rising action, climax and resolution to name a few. We will look at the grading rubric together in order to begin crafting our stories.
I'd like the students to use their independent reading books to look for the six Notice and Note signposts in their reading. They will make note of these in their Notice and Note Flipbooks.
We continue to recognize, create and interpret visual models for division of a fraction by a fraction. We will also be creating situations to demonstrate understanding of dividing a fraction by a fraction. Our time will be spent exploring patterns and visual models of dividing a fraction by a fraction to discover the relationship between multiplication and division.

This week we learned about Andy Warhol, Pop Art and Consumer Culture! Students are creating their own renditions of Pop Art by selecting something recognized in current popular culture. Students also learned how to use various color combinations to make their work interesting and stand out.
This week in art we have looked at a variety of artists that focus on nature in their work. The students are focusing on using close observation when they are drawing their choice ideas from nature. Ask your student to share their drawings with you and talk about their use of value and texture in the sketches.
This week our topic was "Music That Inspires." We worked on performing arrangements of the Civil Rights song Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round and students worked on a project that centered on music promoting awareness and advocacy of an issue that is important to them. Next week we will be talking about the recycled orchestra of Paraguay and students will create their own instruments.
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.
