We packed in a lot of great learning into our short week! We reflected on the first 9 weeks and students completed a survey to share how they've grown this past quarter and goals they have for the next 9 weeks. Students analyzed a text in small groups to determine the Notice and Note strategies featured in the text. They also identified text evidence to support their thinking. We are continuing to work on our narrative drafts next week.
We have enjoyed our short week together. We enjoyed learning about the library with Ms. Clark, our librarian and am glad to see so many books checked out by my students. We have begun our narrative writing unit and are learning about storytelling components.
We continue to recognize, create and interpret visual models for division of a fraction by a fraction. We will also be creating situations to demonstrate understanding of dividing a fraction by a fraction. Our time will be spent exploring patterns and visual models of dividing a fraction by a fraction to discover the relationship between multiplication and division to explain that (a/b)÷(c/d)=(a*d)/(b*c)=(ad)/(bc).

It has been very enjoyable getting to know new students as we start the second quarter. This week centered around getting to know you activities. Next week our topic will be music that inspires. Students will choose an issue that they are passionate about and explore music to support awareness and knowledge about that issue.
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.

Hello! It has been great to get to know the new group of kids this week! This week, we focused on getting to know each other. We learned a body percussion routine called Seven and talked about what song we would consider our 2020 theme song. Next week, we will talk about how musicians can use music as a way to inspire people and talk about songs that raise awareness for issues the students are passionate about. This is going to be a great quarter!
The students explored the 3 types of rocks through an online simulation this week. Next week we will investigate the rock cycle through a variety of activities.
