Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.

This week we worked on our writing stamina with an on demand narrative writing piece. We also practiced word observations and students became an expert on a word. In reading, we are focusing on supporting our responses to our reading with text evidence. Next week we'll be learning about reading signposts and how they can help us think more deeply about texts.
We have had an exciting week of learning about our first two signposts from Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst. We've learned about Contrasts and Contradictions and Again and Again. When we see these in our readings, we need to stop and ask ourselves questions. Ask your child about them this weekend. Next week we will learn about two more, Words of the Wiser and Memory Moment.
This week is all about the greatest common factor and the least common multiple of whole numbers. We will continue to compose and decompose numbers and shapes as these relationships are useful in solving everyday problems and in mental arithmetic. As the week progresses, make sure to touch base with your child about which strategy they like to use when solving for the greatest common factor (GCF).

When all the parts are edited together, we will have created our own music ensemble!
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.
