If they had Music, then they will move to Art.
Students may look for their new RA class's Google Meet link in their courses and in their Team 6-5 course.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
Club Information - Club information is coming for GMS and KMS! Information will be posted on our site and in our Team 6-5 course on Schoology.

Strings: https://sites.google.com/dublinschools.net/dcsorchestra
KMS Orchestra: In addition, HERE is the link to the list of material that we are covering in the Karrer Orchestra Classes.
The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can choose to go to for materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not part of the graded curriculum, but an extension opportunity that students could take advantage of while in RLA. It is optional for families and designed to help them continue to grow in band and orchestra during the pandemic. Thank you!

DCS Flu Shots
Free flu shots will be available to students this school year. You can view the schedule and required forms at this link.
RLA students may go to any school for their flu shots. Families may take all students to one building. Be sure to complete the first form and return it 48 hours before the day of the shot to the school building where you want to get the flu shot. The second form needs to be completed and taken with you on the day of the flu shot.
We focused on crafting strong leads for our narratives and began thinking about how to incorporate a theme into our narratives. This week Google rolled out breakout rooms! Students met with writing partners to get feedback on their narrative leads. This week we also focused on sentence observations and parts of speech to help us add more detailed sentences in our writing. Ask your child about noredink.com and the grammar skills they have been practicing this week.
A great first quarter!!! I cannot believe that we are done with one quarter all ready...We have finished up all of our Notice and Note fictional signposts from Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst. Friday we are having a special guest visitor...ask your child about our visitor. Next week we will begin our unit on narrative writing. Have a wonderful and relaxing long weekend.
Over the next several weeks, we will recognize, create and interpret visual models for division of a fraction by a fraction. We will also be creating situations to demonstrate understanding of dividing a fraction by a fraction. And finally, we will explore patterns and visual models of dividing a fraction by a fraction to discover the relationship between multiplication and division to explain that (a/b)÷(c/d)=(a*d)/(b*c)=(ad)/(bc).

This is our last week in art. All assignments are due this Thursday 10/15. I have enjoyed teaching and creating with all the students. The students have shared so many creative ideas throughout the semester. Have a wonderful rest of the school year.
We wrapped up this week with some exploratory listening to music from many different cultures. We went on a choose your own adventure quest while we discovered these new musics that the students really enjoyed! The students have been truly wonderful in music these past nine weeks and I am sorry to see them leave general music. Please stay tuned for information about a virtual music club for students who would like to continue doing music activities. Also, please have students check and see if they are missing any assignments. I look forward to the new general music students starting next week!
The high school band and orchestra teachers have worked together to put together a site with resources for middle school RLA students. The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can go to choose materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not a graded curriculum, but rather an extension opportunity that students in RLA may take advantage of. It is optional and designed to help students continue to learn and grow in band and orchestra. Students must be logged in to their DCS account to access this resources in this site.

I can't believe this is the end of the quarter and the end of our music class! All assignments should be turned in tomorrow so I can finish grades. I have really enjoyed working with this great group of students. We wrapped up our quarter talking about our own personal family cultures and music that is a part of those cultures. Have a wonderful rest of the school year!
The students spent the week exploring igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Ask your student about our sedimentary and metamorphic rock labs from the week. We will continue to investigate rocks next week.

We have spent some time learning how geologists classify rocks and learning about Igneous rocks. Next week we will learn about Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks. We will then work on a Rock Classification Gizmo lab.
Students are learning about what makes a region. Students will understand that regions can be determined, classified, and compared using various criteria (e.g., landforms, climate, population, cultural, or economics).
We will continue our learning of the 5 world religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. We will be taking a look at where each religion originated. In addition to that we will identify the founding leader (if there was one) and any important books or writings associated with the religion. Here is a link to our "What's Happening" information.
