OHIO STATE TEST REMINDERS:
Wednesday, April 7 - State ELA Test - Part 1
Thursday, April 8 - State ELA Test - Part 2
Monday, April 12 - State Math Test - Part 1
Tuesday, April 13 - State Math Test - Part 2
Remote Learning Students will need to report to school to test. If this isn't possible, please make sure you have connected with the main office to let them know.
There will be NO RLA SYNCHRONOUS CLASSES ON TESTING DAYS. Students will be given asynchronous work to complete after taking the tests, but no "live" instruction will happen on testing days.
Students need to make sure their Chromebook is updated prior to testing . Here are directions for how to do this: Updating a Student Chromebook; Social Studies teachers will be walking students through this process in class.
Students may be signed out and picked up by their parents at the completion of testing. Both Grizzell and Karrer will be sharing details about how this process will look through the principal's communication.
The approximate time for pick up will be around 10:30-11:30 on testing days; look for a more specific time to be shared after spring break.
Students who remain at school for the entire school day will have lunch after testing and then will be in a study center setting with some of the RLA staff to complete their asynchronous work.
Remember to get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast on testing days!
What to bring on testing days?
Charged Chromebook - All OSTs will be done online, so please make sure the Chromebook is charged and ready for each day. It may be a good idea to also bring a charger just in case.
Calculator - There will be one built into the math portion of the test (and science if the problem warrants), but students may also choose to bring their own calculator; students may NOT use their cell phone as a calculator
Lunch - Although the school will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch, your child may choose to bring something from home.
Cell Phone - If a student needs to bring their cell phone to school for testing, it will need to be turned off and unavailable during the testing session. If it is needed to coordinate a ride after the testing session, that will be permitted.
Headphones - Students may bring wired (not bluetooth, so no AirPods) headphones to have the test read out loud to them. Since they will be using their district provided Chromebook, as long as the headphones can plug into the Chromebook, they will be fine.
Something Non-Electronic to Do after the Test - In the chance that the student finishes the test before the testing session is over, they may want to have a book to read or something non-electronic to do after finishing. They will not be able to use their Chromebook, cell phone, or any other digital device after testing.
KMS MARCH PET MADNESS
It is time to vote for our champion! Please check your team Schoology course for more information.
CHROME BOOK - SHUT DOWN
Please log out and SHUT DOWN your Chromebook and not just close it at least once a week.
Let it remain shut down for at least 1 hour or even better while you sleep tonight.
The shut down allows the computer to update itself so it runs more efficiently.
DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
We fine tuned our Teen Activist Essays by making sure we correctly cited our sources within our paragraphs. We also focused on strategies writers use to write a strong conclusion that will leave their reader thinking. Students submitted their final essays this week. We also reviewed test taking strategies with OST practice passages. I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break!
We have had a great week of reflection and taking risks. We watched a TedTalk by Amanda Gorman, the poet for the Presidential Inauguration, and wrote a reflection based on her words. This proved to be very difficult for my students since there weren't many guidelines so I decided to allow them to have more free writing opportunities this week. I want them to be creative, feel free to be themselves in their writing, and to not need rules/boundaries when they write.
When we return from break, many of your children will be involved in book clubs so please encourage them to get their books by April 5th so we can begin reading. Some of your children will be working on an argumentative project. We are excited to venture into these new untils when we return.
Students are using bar models to represent one-step multiplication equations as well as connecting the bar models to the algorithm for solving multiplication equations. They are reasoning about, and using inverse operations to solve one-step multiplication equations.

This week we looked at our Media Balance by charting it in Google Sheets. We took our first Unit test and finished out the week with Google Draw. When we come back from break we will Google searching. Have a wonderful spring break.
It has been fun learning about online scams and schemes this week. You should be able to take this into the future to identify what is and isn't safe to click on. I hope you all have a wonderful spring break! When you return to school we will be taking a look at cyberbullying and social media.
This week we tried Zumba, and it definitely was our "exercise in disguise"! After Spring Break we will be starting our tennis unit, and I cannot wait to teach this as tennis is my PASSION! Have a wonderful Spring Break! Go Celts!
This week in class, we changed gears a bit and learned about the art of Taekwondo. We completed 4 classes going over the basics correlated with the white belt rank/level. Students learned blocking, front kick, axe kick, combination techniques, as well as, terminology. We ended the unit with a fun game of trivia related to Taekwondo through Kahoot!

We have been learning about the geography of the ancient Egyptians and the benefits of the Nile River. The students are discovering how human activities alter the physical environment by learning about irrigation, deforestation, Aswan Dam, and Nassar Reservoir.
