CHROME BOOK - SHUT DOWN
Please log out and SHUT DOWN your Chromebook and not just close it at least once a week.
Let it remain shut down for at least 1 hour or even better while you sleep tonight.
The shut down allows the computer to update itself so it runs more efficiently.
DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
This week students worked on supporting their thesis statements with strong evidence. Students have been reading informational texts and viewing videos with information on the activists to gather their research. They completed an essay graphic organizer to plan their essay draft. Next week they will be drafting and revising their essays. We also continued our vocabulary work with our new Greek and Latin roots: sens, sent and cred, credit.
Thank you to all the parents who attending conferences this week and last. It has been so great connecting with so many of you to talk about your fabulous children. Changes are coming to the hybrid kiddos but our schedule remains the same...we will continue our learning with our introduction to March Book Madness (moved from this week to next) and FINALLY our Teen Activism essays are all done! We are either working towards an argumentative project or towards book clubs. Your children voted so we are excited to move into a new unit of learning.
We moved into the Expressions topic of our course. The students have been writing and simplify numeric expressions. They have also been matching these expressions to represent geometric models, which brought us to applying the Order of Operations to simplify numeric expressions. Lastly, students have been writing algebraic expressions and evaluating numeric expressions.

In Modern Literacy, students looked at where they consumed media. They created their own Google Slide to share with the class to help us to get to know each other. Before sharing their own slide, we discussed the THINK strategy and how remembering that strategy can help us provide effective feedback to our classmates.
Next week, we will discuss our digital footprints and media balance.
It has been great getting to know everyone this week! I am excited for a fun semester :) Next week we will be discussing online search engines and how to find balance in our digital world.
We are making "SMART" goals. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) Currently, we are in the middle of our yoga unit. The students are learning and practicing 15 basic poses they can use for strength, flexibility, and stress relief. On Friday, we will be doing an interactive HIIT workout using dice. I will be introducing all kinds of cardio, dance, and strength workouts throughout the quarter. We will also have a unit on racquet sports. All of the notes from our classes can be found on my Schoology page.
My "SMART" goal is to keep your kids active while meeting the standards for the 9 week grading period in a fun and friendly environment. I hope to teach them something new along the way as well! Virtual PE can be challenging, especially when cameras and microphones are off, so I encourage class participation as much as possible! For example, if they are typing in the google meets chat, I know they are not exercising! They know I am watching!
Looking forward to a great fourth quarter! Go Celts!
My goal as the RLA physical education teacher is to create a safe and fun environment where students will develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation skills. I will also guide and help the students learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle!! I have come up with fun and creative activities that all students can participate in. I hope your kids enjoy them and we have a fun quarter together!!! =)
