TUESDAY, 2/9/21 - NO SCHOOL!
- Due to the inclement weather, DCS will be closed today.
- Yes, that means us too!
- RLA is NOT having classes today!
- It is a great day to complete missing work.
- Enjoy your day!
2:00 - 3:00 PM STUDY CENTER/OFFICE HOURS
Please encourage your student to use the 2:00 - 3:00 PM block of time as a study center.
It is a part of the school day.
Students should use this time to complete assignments and review concepts just like they would do if we were physically in the school building.
Teachers are available in their Google Meets to answer questions and to help our students.
Students may also attend a teacher's Meet to simply work. This has helped some students to be productive during the block of time.

REMOTE LEARNING STUDENTS: We want you in the yearbook too! Please see THIS FORM to submit photos from your home learning environment and experiences that can be included in the KMS yearbook. E-mail Mrs. Kurtz with any questions.
CHROME BOOK - SHUT DOWN
Please log out and SHUT DOWN your Chromebook and not just close it at least once a week.
Let it remain shut down for at least 1 hour or even better while you sleep tonight.
The shut down allows the computer to update itself so it runs more efficiently.
DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
We've been analyzing our research about teen activists. This week students "wrote long" to share patterns they are noticing about the topic of teen activism. Next week we'll be learning how to write a thesis statement to prepare for our informational essay writing. We will also be exploring Greek and Latin roots in word study that are related to our teen activism unit.
We continue to research our teen activists, Marley Dias, William Winslow and Alex Lin. We will take notes in class for the next few days then will be focusing on writing a five paragraph informational essay. We will also be jumping into Greek and Latin roots in word study that are directly related to teen activism.
Our learning this week focused on these essential ideas:
Percent is a part-to-whole ratio with a whole of 100. The symbol % means “out of 100.”
The hundredths grid can be used to represent a fraction, decimal, or percent.
To write a fraction as a percent, scale up or down to an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100, if possible.
To write a fraction as a percent, divide the numerator by the denominator and move the decimal in the quotient two places to the right.
A benchmark percent is a percent that is commonly used, such as 1%, 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, and 100%.
We will continue to look at benchmark percents into next week.
