TUESDAY, 2/2/21 - NO SCHOOL!
- Due to the inclement weather, DCS will be closed today.
- Yes, that means us too!
- RLA is NOT having classes today!
- It is a great day to complete missing work.
- Enjoy your day!
2:00 - 3:00 PM STUDY CENTER/OFFICE HOURS
Please encourage your student to use the 2:00 - 3:00 PM block of time as a study center.
It is a part of the school day.
Students should use this time to complete assignments and review concepts just like they would do if we were physically in the school building.
Teachers are available in their Google Meets to answer questions and to help our students.
Students may also attend a teacher's Meet to simply work. This has helped some students to be productive during the block of time.

PAINT THE PLOW CONTEST
As you know, we could not do our Paint the Plow partnership with DCS this year. So, we are doing a virtual contest.
The contest runs now through January 31.
For more information click: Paint The Plow Contest
CHROMEBOOK - SHUT DOWN
Please log out and SHUT DOWN your Chromebook and not just close it at least once a week.
Let it remain shut down for at least 1 hour or even better while you sleep tonight.
The shut down allows the computer to update itself so it runs more efficiently.
DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
This week we continued practicing our note taking strategies. We also compared/contrasted the author's presentation of information to help us grow in our critical reading skills as we read across multiple texts. Next week we will focus on synthesizing what we've learned in writing to prepare us for our upcoming essay writing lessons.
We are wrapping up our quick study of note taking. We practiced Bullets and Big Idea notes, Cornell Notes and Sketchnoting. With this knowledge, we will continue to learn more about Teen Activists. Each student will choose one activist to study...their choices are William Winslow, Alex Lin and Marley Dias. The students and I will decide what kind of culminating project we will complete to show our understanding.
This week we began to think about percents. We transitioned from thinking about ratio relationships in general to focusing on a special ratio relationship: percents. Students will continue to learn that a percent can be defined multiple ways: as a ratio; as a fraction with a denominator of 100; as a decimal to the hundredths place; and as a part : whole relationship in which the whole is 100. We will continue our learning about percents next week.

We finished up the week by having a work day to complete any past assignments not yet submitted. Next week, we will continue with our work in coding and look further into how to more efficiently search the Web.
This past week we learned about fair use and copyright law. This upcoming week we will be reviewing some of our unit 1 materials as well as taking an open note test on the concepts we have learned. Later in the week, we will be switching to unit 2 in which we will be taking a look at some coding. Enjoy your weekend!
This week we learned how to juggle 3 balls! Encourage your kids to keep practicing, as this is a skill that requires a lot of it! We will be doing Zumba, Yoga review, and a Bingo workout to finish the week! Next week we will start our racquet sport unit. We will be learning about Tennis (my passion), Pickle Ball, and Badminton. Have a great weekend! Mrs. M ;)
This week we will be continuing to practice our throwing, striking, and shooting techniques through various activities in class. We have played games such as Soccer Bottle Flip Challenge and The Strike Zone. The rest of the week students will be participating in Cornhole, Speed Shot Basketball games and will end the week with a fitness scavenger hunt!
