TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021 - ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING DAY
8th Graders in Hybrid and in RLA have the opportunity to take the PSAT.
As a result, all 6th and 7th grade students will have an asynchronous learning day.
Teachers will post assignments on Schoology for the day.
FREE VIRTUAL CONCERT

CHROMEBOOK - SHUT DOWN
Please log out and SHUT DOWN your Chromebook and not just close it at least once a week.
Let it remain shut down for at least 1 hour or even better while you sleep tonight.
The shut down allows the computer to update itself so it runs more efficiently.
2:00 - 3:00 PM STUDY CENTER/OFFICE HOURS
Please encourage your student to use the 2:00 - 3:00 PM block of time as a study center. Students should use this time to complete assignments and review concepts just like they would do if we were physically in the school building.
Teachers are available in their Google Meets to answer questions and to help our students.
Students may also attend a teacher's Meet to simply work. This has helped some students to be productive during the block of time.
PAINT THE PLOW CONTEST
As you know, we could not do our Paint the Plow partnership with DCS this year. So, we are doing a virtual contest.
The contest runs now through January 31.

DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
This week we learned about two young activists, Clara Lemlich who led the the shirtwaist workers strike in 1909 and Malala Yousafzai who is a female education activist and the youngest Nobel Peace prize recepient. We learned the Cornell Note taking method this week and we are practicing summarizing our notes. We'll continue learning about more young activist next week and compare/contrast the authors' presentations of events.
We will continue our conversation about teen activists...we have already discuss Clara Lemlich who was an advocate for working conditions and unions and will continue learning more about Malala Yousafzai. She spoke out for education of women not only in Pakistan, but all over the world. We have learned the Cornell Note taking method and will learn about Sketchnoting as well next week.
We will be plotting ratios and equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane. From these graphs, students will read, determine, and recognize the graphical representation of equivalent ratios.
For MATHia, students should be meeting or exceeding their weekly goal. Thank you for supporting their effort!

This week, we talked about maintaining a media balance. On Tuesday, we discussed the effects of social media on our brains. We worked on getting into Code.org on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday were spent mining fictional websites for information that was inadvertently shared and reviewing what we learned in unit 1.
Next week, we will start unit 2. We will also begin coding html and creating our own website.
Thanks for learning with me how to safely navigate through internet scams this past week. Next week we will be shifting focus and taking a look at cyberbullying as well as fair use.
I hope your kids are enjoying PE as much as I am! We did another interactive workout using cards, and tomorrow our interactive workout will be using the alphabet. This week we did "Just Dance" and had so much fun! On Monday, January 25th, I will be introducing our juggling unit. Please check my Schoology page for easy ideas so your kids are prepared and have something safe to juggle with. We will be learning rules and scoring for tennis, badminton, and pickle ball over the next couple of weeks. I will combine the lectures with some exercises so the kids do not have to sit the entire period. Please encourage your child to practice their yoga poses, as they will be making a flipgrid next month so I can assess their progress. I hope your child shared their "SMART" goal with you and that they are logging their progress! You will be receiving a self-addressed stamped envelope from me in the mail very soon, I asked the students to draw me colorful pictures of activities that they like to do. I will be using these pictures to decorate my office (and possibly the hallways) at the school. As always, I encourage your kids to turn on their cameras and/or microphones so I know they are following along and participating in the workouts. Have a great weekend! Go Celts!
This week students are participating in fun activities that will test their abilities to shoot, throw and strike. Students are also learning about how physical activity is beneficial physically, mentally and emotionally.

We learned and celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the beginning of the week. Then, we learned about the factors of production at the end of the week. Next week, we will continue learning about the final 2 factors of production. Then, students will apply their knowledge on economics by creating their own product.
We are finishing our unit on Ancient China. We will be completing a study guide on Monday. On Tuesday, students will NOT be attending class in person through our Google Meet. Instead, they will work independently and complete the Ancient China Kahoot (found in Schoology) to help them review for the upcoming test. They are to also watch a video on the Silk Road. We will review for the test together on Wednesday and the test over Ancient China will be on Thursday. On Friday we will begin the Ancient India unit.
