PAINT THE PLOW CONTEST
As you know, we could not do our Paint the Plow partnership with DCS this year. So, we are doing a virtual contest.
The contest runs now through January 31.
For more information click: Paint The Plow Contest
DCS VIRTUAL CALMING ROOM
Need a brain break? Need a place to virtually chillax and zone out for a few minutes?
Take a moment to check out our DCS Virtual Calming Room. You will find live animal cameras, online coloring books, and visual relaxation videos, to name a few.
Cameras and Google Meet - Please encourage your student to turn on the camera on Google Meet during classes. It is difficult to know if a student is on task or is understanding the material when the camera is turned off. Google Meet is releasing a new feature to blur the background that is being pushed out through the next few days.
If your family is experiencing hardship, please see THIS FLYER with information about support available within the Dublin community.
We had a wonderful week back! This week we discussed choosing a "Word of the Year" to inspire us to focus on our goals. Students selected a word and they are doing a word observation and writing about their word. Next week we'll be launching into our Teen Activism informational writing unit.
What a great first week back in the new year! This week we focused on "Our Little Word". We chose a word that we wanted to focus on for the year and created a Google slide, we blogged on our Google Site and we recorded a Flipgrid. I will be posting a word cloud of the students' selected words on my website (Eddington's Site) soon along with their Passion Projects. Next week we'll be jump into our Teen Activism informational writing unit.
We will continue to learn about ratios, as we move into thinking about rates and proportions. The students have spent time writing ratios and determining if a ratio represents a part-to-part relationship or part-to-whole relationship.
We have also been thinking about how to support our students with working on MATHia. The students have created goals for MATHia in an effort to make this more of a priority. Please talk with your child about their goal and the steps they are taking to meet this goal.

In Modern Literacy, we looked at the design of the course in Schoology. In our Schoology folder each week will be the materials we used in class for reference as well as assignments. Also this week, students looked at where they consumed media. They created their own Google Slide to share with the class to help us to get to know each other Before sharing their own slide, we discussed the THINK strategy and how remembering that strategy can help us provide effective feedback to our classmates.
Next week, we will discuss our digital footprints and media balance. We will also create in Google Draw and start in Code.org.
It was great meeting everyone this week! Next week we will be looking at different ways to find balance in this modern world. We will be delving into navigating different online spaces. Specifically, we will look at ways to accurately search information as well as the digital presence we leave online.
What a great start to RLA PE! On Tuesday we talked about SMART goals. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) They had to come up with a "SMART" goal and submit it to me. They came up with some really fantastic goals! Wednesday and Thursday we learned 10 yoga poses and practiced them. Some poses are designed to improve strength, others for relaxation. On Friday we are going to be doing our first "roll the dice" workout. This will be a fun mix of cardiovascular and strength exercises. I have also asked the students to help me decorate my office with pictures/drawings of their favorite activities and sports, so look out for a self-addressed stamped envelope so they can mail their pictures back to me! They were pretty shocked that I am using "snail mail". Looking forward to a wonderful quarter!
This week we did some fun activities including: "Spell Your Name and Do The Excercise", a Darebee "License to Sweat Workout", boxing and dancing workout videos.
I will continue to come up with fun and creative ways for the students to stay active and have fun!
