Dear Parents,

There are only twenty-one days left of school!

Olympic Day is Tuesday, May 28, for grades K to 8. Everyone comes in gym clothes. Lunch will be provided. There will be hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, drinks, and Italian ices. If your child doesn’t eat hot dogs, please send in lunch for them. If it is raining, Olympic Day will be held on Wednesday, May 29.

Our Annual Art Show is on Tuesday evening, May 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Please come and see our awesome display of art work which will include all grades.

This is the time of the year when our teachers prepare the class lists for each grade level. Much thought and time goes into this undertaking. Your child’s teacher tries to place your child in the learning environment that is best situated for him/her. Our teachers take into consideration your child’s learning style, the teaching styles of our faculty, the dynamics of the classroom, etc. The teachers will be deciding who will be placed in each class, taking into consideration the personalities of the children. The children will be placed in the class that is best suited for them. All the children in a grade should be given the chance to be in class with one another and get to know one another. If a child didn’t have a good experience with another child in first or second grade, that doesn’t mean that they should never be placed together in a class. Children need to learn to attend to all personalities and to realize that people can change. Differences are a gift from God, and we need to embrace each and every child. If your child has experienced any social issues with a child that would interfere with his/her progress, please let us know in writing. No changes will be made after the report cards have been issued.

Please do not make a request for a specific teacher. That will not be honored. You may, however, request not to have a specific teacher based on a negative experience. A teacher cannot be requested because other children in the family have had that teacher. Please understand that no requests will be considered for the oldest child. Submit a letter to your child’s teacher and to Ms. Grasso or me for any of the above issues. Thank you for your cooperation.

Every person who volunteers in school for any reason at all must receive the VIRTUS training mandated by the Diocese. We must abide by this policy. No one will be permitted to take part in any school functions without attending a training session. If you need to attend a session, please visit the Diocesan website at www.drvc.org and click on Protecting God’s Children. The dates, times, and locations of VIRTUS classes are listed. You only need to attend one session. You may register for a class on line and after you attend, please send in a copy of the certificate that states you attended the class. We will be providing VIRTUS training sessions in the fall for the new families. Thank you to all who have already received this training.

As the weather becomes warmer, many children will want to wear shorts to school. The length of the shorts in many cases is not appropriate for school. The shorts should be no shorter than four inches above the knee as stated in the handbook. Going forward, this policy must be followed by everyone.

I thank you for all your support and cooperation. Let us pray for peace in our world, our country, our homes, and our hearts.

Sincerely in Christ,

Sister Maureen McDade.
