April 16

•This week the children will be working on the letters ‘K’ and ‘Q’. The children will learn how to write the letters and about the sounds that they make!

February 12

•This week the children will be working on the letter ‘R’. The children will learn about the letter r’, including how to write the letter and the sound that it makes!

•In math, the children will practice counting to 100 by ones and tens.

•Our theme this week, will cover the topics of love and friendship. We will discuss what it means to be a friend and the ways that we can show love.

February 5

•This week the children will be working on the letter ‘R’. The children will learn about the letter r’, including how to write the letter and the sound that it makes!

•In math, the children will be learning how to model, count and write the number 20. They will also practice counting to 100 by ones and tens.

•In science, we will be studying the season of winter. We will be making discoveries about snow and snowmen. Our snow unit will be supported by the Snowmen At Night book series.

•In math, the children will be learning how to model, count and write the numbers 18 through 19. They will practice composing and decomposing teen numbers.

•For our math test, review counting up to 19. Practice adding numbers to 10 to create numbers 11 through 19. For example, 10 + 4 = 14.

•In science, we will be studying penguins. We are going to focus on their life cycles, predators and their prey.

•We will also be completing a short unit of study on groundhogs in honor of Groundhog Day.

•In science, we will be studying a variety of arctic animals including the polar bear, walrus, harp seal and arctic fox. Throughout the week, the children will be learning about the special features of these animals that help them to stay warm.

•This week we are going to complete a short literacy study on the work of Jan Brett. Specifically we will focus on The Mitten and The Hat. We are going to compare the characters, plots and settings between the two stories. The children will also work on retelling the stories using ordinal numbers (first, second) to describe the sequence of events.

•We will be continuing to read many different versions of the Gingerbread Man. The focus this week, will be on making comparisons between the plots, characters and settings of the stories we are reading as compared to the traditional gingerbread stories.

•In science, the children will be channeling their inner scientist as they study the human skeleton. We will be learning the proper names of certain bones and their functions. The children will specifically learn about the phalanges, skull, patella, ribs and scapula.

  • This week we will be working on the letter ‘G’. The children will learn about the

letter ‘G’, including how to write the letter and the sound that it makes!

  • In math, we will be comparing sets of objects through matching and counting.

Both methods help us to compare sets of objects to see if they have the same

number of objects, more objects or less objects.

  • In science, we will be learning about nocturnal animals. Specifically bats, owls,

raccoons, and fireflies.

  • Throughout the month we will be learning about the season of fall.

September 25

  • This week we will be finish our study of the letter ‘C’. Later in the week, the children will learn about the letter ‘O’, including how to write the letter ‘O’ and the sound that it makes!


  • In math, we will be focusing on counting, modeling, writing the number 5. Then the children will be learning about the ways to make 5.


  • For the next two weeks, the children will be learning all about apples! They will learn about three different types of apples including Granny Smith Apples, Golden Delicious Apples, and Red Delicious Apples. Our exploration will focus on the parts of an apple and their functions.
