Your hair is 120,000 strands stuck in the skin on your scalp (the skin on your head). Each hair comes from a deep pit in the skin. Hair protects the body and keeps it so it is NOT too hot or too cold. Each hair has 2 parts- 1) a root (base that is hidden under the skin) that is alive and living. 2) a shaft (part that sticks out of the skin) that is dead, hard skin called keratin.
