The aim of this project was to showcase the Columbian Exchange and its impact on people through clay creations. The assignments across different classes were connected, all focusing on how food availability affected the environment. In art class, we designed a table setting representing the Columbian Exchange, creating three plates and three heads. The plates were made using a slab dish and coil method, while the heads were created using the pinch method. Afterward, we glazed both the plates and heads. This project relates to the Columbian Exchange because each plate represents different foods introduced to the Americas and how these foods are now present in various cultures. The heads represent the different races that are in each food desert. The plates represent the different cultures from the columbian exchange, the broken one being cultures that were destroyed. If we had more time, I would design foods that are specifically tied to each culture.
