I joined the Cross Country at the beginning of 8th grade. At first, I joined Cross Country as a way to stay fit, and keep me busy outside of school. Throughout the 8th grade season, I started to fall in love with the sport due to its high intensity and satisfaction of beating your PR (personal record). That year, our team ended up getting second place in the middle schoool APS championships. Going into my highschool career, the distance changed from 2 miles to 3 miles, which led to a harder physical strain and harder practices. I was in a semi-new environment, with new teammates and a new coach. I still preserved and kept PR'ing until 10th grade year, where my current PR is a 21:01:58. Also, this year we were able to get 2nd place in regionals.
I joined Drew's JV Basketball program in 9th grade. My freshman year into basketball was a very rude one. Our team was very young, and we had a new coach, which led to us losing a lot of games while trying to figure out out footing. While all this was happening, I was slowly losing the love for the sport. I kept playing though, until 10th grade, where we had a much better year, going 6-6. Even with this much better turnaround, I was still losing my love for the sport, mostly due to the forced role I was being placed by my coach.
I joined Drew's Track and Field program in 7th grade. Track was my first ever organized sport after elementary school that I joined, and was my first time actually ever running track. Since it was my first time, I had no idea what I wanted to run, and could never really fit in with any of the fast, most popular events. One meet, somebody was out who was supposed to run the 800, so I volunteered and ran the 800 that meet. That was the first time I have ever ran a 800, and I got second in my heat. I ended the season running the 800, and kept running it throughout middle school. My middle school PR ended up being a 2:36. In 8th grade, I also picked up high jump, where my PR was 5'0 Going into highschool, I dropped my time more, and ended my 9th grade season with a 2:22. My high jump PR was a 5'2. Now in 10th grade, my PR's are 2:13 and 5'6.
After I stopped playing flag football in 8th grade. I was offered a refereeing job by the same organization. I gladly accepted and got registered by the NFL Flag Football Rule Book. I have been refereeing for 2 years now and I love getting paid while watching the sport I love.
B.O.N.D. is a mentorship program at Drew for young males. We participate in several community service opportunities. We visited a college fair in New York City, and toured several other highschools and colleges in the New York area..
