For our first synthesis essay, we argued whether or not Arthur Miller's portrayal of Tituba in The Crucible was historically accurate. My thesis was that Miller overall inaccurately represented Tituba in the play because he removed her cultural identity through racial stereotypes, amplified her involvement in the creation of Salem’s witch trials, and reduced her to a plot device to further move the story, ultimately portraying her as an evil, African-American slave who does witchcraft, and I used Source B, A, and H as sources.
For our first rhetorical analysis essay, we analyzed a passage of Arthur Miller's article, "Why I Wrote The Crucible." My thesis was Miller claims he wrote The Crucible because he was inspired by the dynamic of Abigail, John Proctor, and Elizabeth Proctor, comparing their dynamic to his own marriage which is revealed through, his ulitization of Pathos when comparing john Proctor to himself, his displayment of a sure and convincing tone as he discovers the dynamic between Abigail and the Proctors’, and his point-of-view as a researcher and investigator of the Salem Witch Trials.
