The first time I volunteered for the Books for Africa program, I was lying in a crate full of donated books, sorting and reading them as I helped organize shipments for schools in need. It was my very first time participating, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But as I flipped through pages and helped pack books for kids across the world, I felt a strong connection to the power of learning and giving back. Being part of something so meaningful made me feel proud, and I left that day knowing I wanted to return. I discovered a new love for service and reading in a place I never expected.
After my first experience with Books for Africa, my family saw how much I loved it, and we decided to go back together. Since then, it has become a tradition in our family. Every year, we visit the warehouse to volunteer—sorting books, packing crates, and knowing that we're helping someone get closer to an education. It's become more than just a day of volunteering—it's now part of who we are. Giving back together as a family has brought us closer and reminded us how small acts can make a big difference around the world.
