Project Summary

Driving Question: How can understanding the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations help us appreciate and preserve the diverse cultures that shape our world today?

Driving Question Answer: Understanding the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations allowed us to recognize the foundational contributions they made to modern society. Such as governance, philosophy, art and technology.

For this project, we got into groups to create short films that represented specific ancient civilizations. My group chose Ancient China and decided to create our film based on the main religions Daoism, Confucianism, Legalism, and Buddhism. Each character represented a specific religion and possessed character traits that resembled the beliefs of the religion. We brainstormed, created a plot diagram, wrote our script, filmed, and edited our video. The different assignments we completed while doing this project are linked below.

Research Chart

We researched Ancient China and took note of important details and information that are relevant and could be helpful to writing our script. More specifically, details regarding the geography, religion, achievement, politics, economics, and social structure of Ancient China.

Plot Diagram

We drafted a plot diagram prior to creating our script that lined out different parts of the story. We went in detail about the setting and time period, and then worked together to build up the storyline to its climax, and then created a conclusion that had a clear theme.

Final Script

Through the course of multiple different class periods, me and my group members wrote our script which consisted of 4 scenes. These scenes detailed the conflict that arose due to the differences in religious beliefs between the characters.

This is our final short film for the Shaping Our world project. The story follows four people in Ancient China that each represent a specific religion. The religious practices and belief systems of Daoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Legalism are all represented through each characters traits and personal views. We made sure to include a clear theme and plot progression. We edited the video and included music to immerse the audience into the culture of Ancient China and better Emphasize the time period.
