This project highlights the Factory Girls Association, one of the first labor organizations in the U.S., formed by young women working in Lowell textile mills during the 1830s. My poster explains the historical context of the Lowell Mill Girls, their goals to fight wage cuts and poor conditions, and the unintended consequences of employer retaliation and failed strikes. It also connects their early activism to modern labor and women’s rights movements, showing how their efforts helped shape workplace reforms. Visuals include images of the mills, factory girls, and comparisons between past and present working conditions.
