I chose Basquiat because of his bold style and use of cultural symbols. He used Mexican masks in his work, but I chose to use African masks instead to reflect my heritage. I kept his rough, expressive style and used strong colors and textures to show emotion and identity. Originally, i was going to make the skull based off of mexican heritage, but i found that my sketch and his art were very similar so i changed it to make it more personal to me. I Incorporated his iconic crown symbol as well.
Our conflict was vaping and overall In our version, we replaced the bombs and figures from the original painting with images related to vaping. Clouds of vapor take the place of smoke, and the people in the painting look scared or hurt while holding vapes. At the center, a broken figure represents a young person who has died. We used a technique called fractured value—using sharp contrasts between light and dark—to show confusion, chaos, and the emotional pain that comes with addiction and loss.
For this project our driving question was How can we create a sustainable and inclusive food system that promotes cultural diversity, health, and social equity? and to answer this question our task was to make a table setting with ceramics inspired by one of the countries involved in the Columbian exchange. My group created a plate with the west and eastern hemispheres labled then placed a piece of corn on the western side since that is where it originated. We made a pot of honey on the eastern side since that is also were it originated and in the middle of both the hemispheres we put a pot of money because money was a major factor that contributed to both of the economies during the columbian exchange.
For this project I had to find different images that associated with the word "CHEMVAS" and they also had to spell out the word. Some new tools that I used were the cut tool and that made it helpful to remove things quickly that I didn't need. I also used white to make it look like i erased some parts of the pictures. My work was used with different colors/color gradients for the background, and I also contorted different images to make the shapes look like each letter. I liked how you could turn one image into another and I would use the rotating tool in the future to make my artwork look how I want.
each class througout our grade did a survey and chose wich colors they felt associated with each emotion. We made drawing with diffrent lines, forms, and colors and made our interpritation of how each color/emotion should look. We also used the skittle colors and predicted the quantity we would get based on the colors.
