While we were studying the Dada movement, something that resonated with me the most was how they discussed what was socially and politically relevant during that time period. I also liked how in Dada, artists used ready made materials inside of the art piece, making the artist the decision maker instead of the creator. I did both of these things in my piece by using text and images of women within my piece to show what’s relevant within the media, the text within my piece also includes information about mental health in teens, black lives matter, and strengthening women. Every picture and piece of text in my art work came out of a magazine, making these ready made materials.
Please include newspaper cutouts, magazines, flyers, pictures, found and ready made items...etc in your collage inspired by DADA collage.

In my piece, my intentions were to create a visual representation of how I felt while listening to “Pyramids” by Frank Ocean. My piece is the one on the bottom right. I took inspiration from Kandinsky by using bright colors, thick lines as well as geometrical shapes throughout my piece. Kandinsky also listened to music as he created his piece which is what I did as well. Before making my piece, the first thing I did was listen to the song in order to visualize what colors I would use and how I would use them in order to express what I felt. I used bright blue, green, yellow, red, purple and orange because these were the colors that I visualized as I listened to the song. I also made sure to come back to certain spots of the piece and add smaller details while listening to the songs such as long, thick lines using these bright colors as well as some black lines. All in all, my piece has no specific meaning, it’s up for viewers to make a meaning because music is similar in that way. Everybody feels different things while listening to different music, therefore, I want people to feel however they want as they view my piece.
While we were creating this piece of art our intention was to make a work inspired by Andy Warhol. He was known for his art style, “pop art,” which basically pictured everyday objects that were popular in society, so we found it crucial to make sure we used more than one point of reference from these pieces. We were inspired by many different pieces from Andy Warhol, who was a big time pop artist back in the 1960's. In this piece we made sure to use repetition and bright, contrasting colors as well as flattening and simplifying the subject within our piece. The first thing we did while creating this piece was splitting the paper into 4 different sections so that we could use repetition as much as we could. Then we made 4 circles in each square to create the donut which was the subject of our piece. After that we picked out some bright colored markers and started to decide what colors we wanted next to each other and how we wanted to color the piece. The meaning of pop art is to blur the boundaries between high and low culture, and because our intention was to make a piece inspired by pop artist Andy Warhol, the meaning of our piece is the same.
