Chemistry plays a crucial role in paper making. Wood contains cellulose fibers. In order to extract these fibers, chemicals like sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide are used to break down the lignin, which is the glue that holds the fibers together, and separate the cellulose fibers
For this assignment we were supposed to represent either ionic or covalent bonds using paper. Me and my partner's example represents an ionic bond because they have opposite charges so we used colors that are opposite on the color wheel
The goal of this project was to create foods or objects out of clay that relate to food deserts as well as the Columbian Exchange. In art class, I created a pizza, donut, and lettuce. This shows an example of what most people in food deserts have access to vs things that are healthier that they should eat. I wanted to capture the connection between the Old World and the New World. I used clay and glaze to finish my project and began with sketches of what I wanted to create. I had trouble with time management, but I learned a lot in the process. If I had more time I would've added more details as well as more items.
For this project we had to create a piece that relates specifically to the element we received. My element was Uranium which is used from nuclear power. So I did a nuclear power plant. In my picture I included proportion and repetition. I found it difficult to add details. If i could do something differently I think I would take my time.
For this project we had to search for different object on the internet that related either to chemistry or art. One new tool I learned while making this was clicking the tools button on Google images and going directly to the images that have a transparent background. Some examples of Elements of Art used in my artwork are color and value. I liked this assignment because it allowed us to be creative and I could use copy and pasting in the future because things may need to be moved around or moved in a way where coping and pasting is the most beneficial.
On this assignment, students were told to view the results from the chemistry lab we did the day before. After viewing the data, we were also supposed to see what feelings our classmates associated with these colors. After reviewing that data, we were told to record the data in a creative and fun manner, instead of using the standard pie charts and/or bar graphs.
For my art final, I chose to get inspiration from Peter Max. I was drawn to his use of bold colors, stylized shapes, and vibrant landscapes. My artwork reflects his influence through the bright, expressive sun and the vivid, abstract patterns on the house, which resemble Max’s playful approach to color and form. While working, I decided to exaggerate the curves of the hill and emphasize strong outlines to give the piece a graphic, animated feel, similar to Max’s pop art style. I also layered various shades of crayon to build texture and create contrast, especially in the sky and grass, to capture a sense of joyful movement that mirrors his dynamic compositions.
