Attending SingFest at Georgia State University was an amazing experience. I joined over 400 students from different high schools to form Atlanta’s largest choir. We rehearsed together in the historic Rialto Center for the Arts and learned from Dr. Deanna Joseph and the Georgia State University Singers. Singing in such a big group helped me improve my listening skills and blend my voice with others. I also enjoyed watching performances by the GSU Opera students and participating in workshops that taught me more about music. This event inspired me to continue singing and consider studying music in college.
Going to UGA Choral Day was a really exciting experience for me. I got to sing with other high school students from all over Georgia and work with the UGA choral teachers and college students. I liked how we did sectional rehearsals and learned new songs together. It pushed me to sing in a bigger group and pay attention to how all the voices come together. I also enjoyed watching the UGA students perform because it gave me a chance to see what college-level singing is like. It made me feel more confident about my singing and showed me what’s possible if I keep practicing and stay involved in choir.
At our school holiday concert, I got to perform songs like "Silent Night" with my choir. It felt really special to sing these songs because they reminded people of the holiday spirit and brought everyone together. I was a little nervous at first, but once we started singing, I felt more confident and proud. I liked hearing the audience clap and seeing how the music made them smile. Singing in front of people helped me practice being brave and using my voice to spread joy.
Performing at the Southern Star Music Festival at Six Flags was a fun and exciting experience. Our choir got to compete with other schools and perform in front of judges. It felt good to show off all the hard work we put into our songs. After we performed, we got to enjoy the rides and have fun as a group. It was a great way to bond with my choir friends and celebrate what we achieved together. I learned that performing can be both hard work and a lot of fun.
