Artist Statement: Kampbell Harris: This project aimed to explore the impact of the Columbian Exchange through history and art. History provided context on the exchange of goods and cultures, while art allowed me to creatively represent these exchanges. I created a piece using symbols or food items from both worlds, choosing materials and colors that reflected their cultures. Some aspects, like using meaningful symbols, worked well, but challenges like time management and balancing accuracy with creativity arose. If I had more time, I would add more details or explore other aspects of the exchange. "Food for Thought" could reflect on the project's impact through visual slides. For my piece, I selected symbols and food items that were exchanged between the two worlds, choosing materials and colors that reflected the distinct cultural identities of the peoples involved. This approach helped me highlight the shared influences that reshaped both hemispheres. Elements such as the potato, maize, spices, and domesticated animals served as the focal points of my artwork, each carrying significant cultural and economic weight. In executing this project, I faced both successes and challenges. One strength was the effective use of meaningful symbols that captured the essence of the exchange. The incorporation of food items was a particularly impactful choice, as it made the historical exchange tangible and accessible.

Create a poster about yourself online using Google Drawings or any other software of your choice. Describe your physical appearance in at least 3 complete sentences in Spanish, and your personality in at least 3 additional sentences; include a total of 6 different qualities, addressing both aspects. Remember to use adjectives that align with your gender in the original sentences. Create a visually compelling color design that includes a picture of yourself. Proofread your sentences before finalizing your poster. Make sure to use a font large enough to be readable from a distance. Print out your color poster to be displayed in the hall. Please emulate the poster created by Jason Trash displayed in the 9th-grade hall.
Include a full-body selfie dressed formally or professionally in your poster.

I researched the properties and significance of different elements to inform my artistic choices, ensuring that each element was represented accurately. I used digital tools to create the artwork, blending technology and artistic design, while the engineering aspect came into play when considering the layout and structure of the periodic table. Mathematics was involved in calculating proportions and scaling the elements effectively within the artwork. Overall, this interdisciplinary approach allowed for a deeper understanding of the subject matter while expressing it artistically.
Mandalas appear in different cultures because they serve as universal symbols of wholeness, balance, and harmony. They often represent the cosmos or the self, reflecting a deep connection to spirituality and the natural world. Their intricate patterns and circular designs evoke a sense of unity, which is why they resonate across diverse traditions.
For your Electron Configuration Mandala project, adapting the mandala could involve incorporating elements that represent different energy levels, orbitals, or electron arrangements. You might have used specific symbols to represent each sublevel (like s, p, d, f) or visual representations of elements and their configurations to convey the underlying concepts of atomic structure.
The Principles of Design in your Electron Configuration Mandala might be illustrated through balance (symmetry in your design), contrast (using different colors or shapes for different elements), and unity (how all parts work together to convey a single theme or message about electron configurations).
Reflecting on the process, what went well might include effective collaboration and creativity in combining ideas. Challenges could have involved ensuring clarity in the design or representing complex concepts in a visually appealing way. Feedback might have led to adjustments, such as simplifying certain elements or enhancing color contrast for better visibility.
