As a junior in high school, I was selected to be apart of a Work Based Learning program in which seniors would be able to take internships in the surrounding communities. However when the world was put on pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my school decided to create a class that would be dedicated to exploring our careers and gaining mentor relationships with those in our career fields of interest. Below are my projects work from this class throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
Of all subjects, science has always sparked my interest. With my Chemistry teacher gone on leave for my 2nd semester of Sophomore year, I never would have thought that Chemistry would be my favorite science subject to learn about. Learning how to balance chemical equations and calculate stoichiometry problems was fun and the work came naturally. Chemistry is now one of my favorite subjects in that you study the earth, not physically, but on a molecular and gaseous level which cannot be seen by the human eye. Coming home after a long day, I would catch myself researching more about poly atomic ions, chemical bonding, and atomic structure. Understanding the mysteries of what lies beyond the physical appearance of all things is an aspect that I can see myself pursuing in my future. The more I researched, the more I envisioned myself taking on a career in the Chemistry realm. As a junior, I decided that I wanted to major in Biochemistry and from then on, apply those skills to pediatrics and work with children in the medical field.
