How did Ellis and Angel Islands impact barriers for people in the midst of immigration?

Before the project could begin, I had to create a project proposal. The purpose of my project is to examine the barriers created for immigrants that were involved with Ellis and Angel Islands.

My goal for this project is to give an insight about the procceses and difficulties about imigration in the form of an artwork. It will be presented from the POV of an immigrant, and will ilustrate the hardships and triumphs they experienced.

What standards are you adressing in the project?

SSUSH11 – Examine connections between the rise of big business, the growth of labor unions, and technological innovations

Why did I chose this standard?

I chose the standard because of the cultural importance of these immigration stations. Because of them, so many people went through terrible conditions and mistreatments. Out of their experiences came beautiful stories and poetry.
