Today, in this experiment, we were supposed to make lampblack ink. This experiment was a combustion reaction. We used a small candle, a spoon, a tile, a scraper, and a brush. First, we lit the candle and held our spoons over the flame for a while. After the spoons collected enough soot, we used a paper scraper to scrape off the powder. This is where my group and I made a mistake—we didn’t gather enough powder to paint with. Even though the experiment didn’t work out for us, it was still a fun experience. I think it didn’t go well because wax kept getting on our spoon, which made it harder to collect the powder.
