The objective of this project was to design a table setting inspired by the diverse cultures connected through the Columbian Exchange. Unlike previous assignments, this project emphasized a more hands-on and artistic approach, encouraging students to develop original sketches and personalized designs. For my part, I created a bowl and a plate—two fundamental and practical elements commonly found in any dining experience. One of the main challenges we faced was maintaining a consistent color palette across all the pottery pieces, which required careful coordination and experimentation. If I were to revisit this project, I would focus on designing a unique centerpiece to unify and enhance the overall table setting.

I chose Pablo Picasso as my inspiration due to his groundbreaking contributions to modern art, particularly his exploration of Cubism and his ability to deconstruct and reimagine form. My artwork draws from Picasso’s abstract approach by fragmenting the subject into geometric shapes, challenging traditional perceptions of space and perspective. While editing, I focused on simplifying complex forms and experimenting with asymmetry to mirror Picasso’s emphasis on abstraction.
