I chose Georgia O’Keeffe as my artist because I love flowers, and her artwork often focuses on large, detailed paintings of flowers. My favorite flower is the hibiscus, so I decided to base my artwork on that flower to make a personal connection to O’Keeffe’s style. My artwork is related to her work because I used close-up views and bold colors to highlight the beauty of the hibiscus, similar to how she emphasized natural shapes and vibrant tones. While working, I chose to zoom in on the petals and simplify the background to keep the focus on the flower. I made these editing decisions to capture the delicate look of the hibiscus while also showing its strength and beauty, just like O’Keeffe did in her floral paintings.
This is a part of our food for thought PBL project. In Art class with Dr. Kurt, we were asked to make ceramics of the supplies that were used in the Columbian Exchange. In our group we chose foods from the western and eastern hemisphere which were honey, and corn. We also chose money to be incorporated because it was the outcome that each side got while they were trading. We chose honey because it was a valuable item during the trade, we chose money because this was how each side became wealthy from trading and then we chose corn because this crop aided population growth.
