AP World History
This is where all of my assignments are for AP World History. I had to study periods 1-4 which consisted of units 1-8 from circa 1200-present. I even learned a bit about unit 0, which is prehistory and how the world was before circa 1200. My binder consists of tabs, table of contents, and titled section pages that make it easier to find certain assignments from certain periods and keep my binder organized. Each week, I had homework assignments that help me review new units and better prepare me for the AP Exam at the end of the year. I either had 1 or 2 homework assignments per week, and they were all due on the following Mondays. In class, I filled out notes for the units and as a class, we had regular discussions about the information we learned. I also learned and practiced the types of writing that would be on the AP Exam. I learned how to write SAQs (Short-Answered Questions), LEQs (Long-Extended Questions), and DBQs (Document Based Questions). I also learned how to score my writing to receive the maximum amount of points.

AP Computer Science
For this assignment, I chose 3 activities that were review for my upcoming AP Exam. I chose to work on my portfolio, I chose to do a Kahoot review, and I chose to complete a programing in EarSketch activity. For this activity I was allowed to work with a partner to create a song/rap about what I've learned this school year in AP computer science.

For this assignment, I chose 3 activities that were apart of an interactive tic-tac-toe board to review for my upcoming AP Exam. I was required to complete a hangman activity where you create a hangman game in codeHS and screen record yourself playing. I chose to complete the Tedx Talks activity, where I watched a video and filled out the notes that went along with it. For my final activity, I chose to complete a Kahoot which was just review.

For this assignment, I worked with a partner to create a survey and collect the data to answer questions afterwards. My partner and I decided to create a survey asking people about their favorite subjects. We included multiple choice questions like what their gender was, their current grade, and their favorite subject(s). For that question, we allowed them the option to select as many as they wanted because we know that some people have more than 1 favorite subject.

Today, I learned about lists, and how to specifically turn strings into lists. A list is a heterogenous (different), mutable (being able to change) data type that stores an ordered sequence of things. I also learned that lists have brackets instead of parenthesis when printed. We took notes in class, and then we had an exit ticket to complete. Once we turned that in, we had to complete the lesson for today on CodeHS.

Today, I learned about tuples and how it's a heterogeneous (different), immutable (NOT being able to change) data type that stores an ordered sequence of things. I also learned when to tell your data to start, and tell it when to stop. Afterwards, I completed the lesson on CodeHS for the rest of the class.

For this assignment, I wrote out the series of commands that Karel needed to follow in order to climb up a flight of stairs.
August 9, 2024
In this lesson, I used functions that were already defined and some functions that weren't. I used all of these commands to get Karel to create stacks of pancakes, which are just balls.
August 5, 2024
For this assignment, I turned a set of commands into one command with a proper name for it.
August 2, 2024
For this assignment, I turned certain tasks into Karel commands, or pieces of code commands.

Chemistry
This is my elemental art project and for this we were given an element, and we had to research and draw things that incorporated or were made out of that specific element.
November 11, 2024
This is our Bohr Model project where we were given an element and we had to create its Bohr model based on the amount of protons, neutrons, and electrons it has.

The periodic table was created by white men from Europe. I think if it were women or other minorities that discovered the elements, I believe people wouldn't take them as serious or punish them for "lying or making things up." I also think that it could possibly be more accurate, and more elements could've been discovered sooner. The element also would've been named differently and the format of the periodic table might not be how it is now. This is how cultural and historical contexts might have shaped scientific discoveries in the making of the periodic table.
October 2, 2024
For this project, we were given many different ways to show the history of the periodic table. My way of showing the history of the periodic table was through a Mount Rushmore themed drawing of important figures involved in the periodic table.

For this lab, we made s'mores and identified whether certain properties were chemical or physical.
August 5, 2024
We also went through the procedures, to eventually reach our conclusion.
August 5, 2024
For this lab, I made bubbles using straws and different types of liquid soap brands. I did different trials to see which soap made the biggest bubble.

Theater
My class performed "Don't Fear the Reaper" for our One-Act Competition. A one-act play is a short drama that takes place in a single act, rather than being divided into multiple acts. "Don't Fear the Reaper" is a one-act play by Eddie Zipperer, that is a dark comedy where the Grim Reaper spirals through absurd encounters after losing his job. The play blends satire and fantasy to reimagine death with humor and humanity. I played God and won best actress in the competition. Before I got the role, I had to go through an audition process. I originally wanted the role of the game show host, but got the main role of God instead.

For this assignment, I was a city/urban planner in Mexico City, who had to organize and design a new city close by. I drew a detailed map of my city by hand, and labeled 20 places in my city (in Spanish).
September 10, 2024
For this assignment, I learned about where certain places are in relation to other places. For example, if there is a school, I would say that my house is in front of, next to, etc. in relation to the school. But of course, I had to answer in Spanish.

ChemVAS
In Dr. Kurt's class, we were put into groups to make paper. We used scap paper, ripped it up, and put it into water to blend it up. Once it was blended, we put it in a tub of water and sifted it to capture all of the paper. Afterwards, we placed it on a damp towel, ad squeezed as much of the water as we could out of the paper. Then we peeled it off of the towel and set it aside to dry.

For this assignment, we used a traditial Chinese technique to create a picture using a specific type of ink. The dryer the brush, the darker the ink and the wetter the brush, the lighter the ink. The Chinese technique that I used is called the Broken Brush technique. Using this technique, I was able to create a beautiful work of art.

For this project, my group and I dyed bandanas using different dyes such as blueberries and cabbage. In the process, we added vinegar to make the dye brighter, and baking soda to make the dye darker. For the process of dyeing the bandana, we first had to wet it, then fold it and use rubberbands to make the right amount folds. In the end, our bandana came out slightly purple, with hints of green and brown.

Today, I did an activity similar to weaving paper, but instead I used yarn. I chose a cardboard base with grooves at both the top and the bottom. I got to use whatever color yarn I wanted, so I went with blue and white. I started off with blue and placed them vertically on the cardboard using the grooves. Afterwards, I used a pencil to go over and under the blue pieces of yarn, creating a brick-like pattern.

My partner and I's work combines weaving and bonding by showing that we have ionic bonding based off of our colors. Ionic bonding is when we have opposite or complementary colors. Whereas covalent bonding should have a strand representing electron woven through both my partner and I's work. We each had 2 sheets of paper and folded one in half. We then cut equal length slits that were large enough for the other pieces of paper to slide through. As mentioned before, we cut the other paper into small strips and did an over-under method that create a checker board pattern going from left to right, and top to bottom.

The mandala is from India and was founded by Siddhartha Gautama in roughly 560 B.C.E. The Mandala is believed to represent the universe, its wholeness and the cycle of life. Mandalas are frequently used in Bhutan as instruments of meditation, ceremonial rites, worship, and sacred art. I think mandalas show up in different world civilizations because it represents the circle of life and even good luck. I can see symmetry, repetition, and proportion.

For this assignment, I learned how to draw shapes in 1 and 2 point perspectives starting from our horizon line or our eye line. I then used what I learned to draw the 9th grade hallway, starting with my horizon line and then adding the different shapes and objects. I started with the smallest objects or the 'back,' of the hallway; and finished with the bigger objects, or the 'front' of the hallway.

Skittles Data Visualization
I did a data observation using Skittles and how their colors can convey certain emotions. I took this data and turned it into lines to create an image. I used the colors and and different types of lines such as a straight line, spikey line and a couple others to show different emotions.
August 15 - 16, 2024
Today, we learned about different colors and how they work with each other. This is called color theory. In class today, I created my own palettes using certain themes. For example, one of my themes was Autumn, so I used red, orange, brown, and yellow.

To me, art is something that has sentimental value and/or tells a story in some kind of way. Other subjects such as math, science, ELA, and history can be art as well. For example in math, a certain numerical expression could have a special meaning to someone or in science, doing an experiment could tell a specific story. In ELA and history, unique stories are told through the books that we read and the events of the past. This is what art means to me and how it's shown throughout other subjects.
