For this assignment, we created a timeline of Misty Copeland’s life and career. Misty Copeland is a groundbreaking American ballet dancer who became the first African American female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Our timeline highlighted important moments in her journey—from her early life and late start in ballet at age 13, to her rise through the ranks of ABT, and her impact on the dance world. We included key achievements, such as her debut in major roles, her influence as a role model, and her work to make ballet more diverse and accessible. This project helped us understand how determination, talent, and resilience can break barriers in the world of dance.
For this assignment, we were asked to create our own test using dance vocabulary we’ve learned in class. I selected important terms related to dance techniques, positions, and movement styles. I created a mix of multiple-choice, true/false, and short answer questions to test understanding of the vocabulary. This project helped me review and reinforce key dance terms while also thinking critically about how to design a fair and clear assessment. It also gave me a better understanding of how dance vocabulary is used in practice and performance.
