Driving Question and Answer:
How can understanding the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations help us appreciate and preserve the diverse cultures that shape our world today?
For this project, our central question was, "How can understanding the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations help us appreciate and preserve the diverse cultures that shape our world today?" To answer this, we were tasked with creating a 5-minute video that highlights the achievements, culture, and modern impact of an ancient civilization of our choice. In my response to the question, I would argue that exploring these ancient civilizations helps us recognize and value the diversity of cultures that exist in the world today, encouraging us to actively preserve them as important elements of our shared human heritage.
In class, we studied the different elements of plot structure and how each part contributes to a story’s development. Using the plot diagram, we mapped out the story of how the Indus River Valley civilization is believed to have fallen due to the Aryan migration, which brought significant disruption. We outlined the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution to effectively structure our narrative.
To kick off our project, we began by writing the script and assigning lines to each person based on their character and our plot diagram. We then developed the scenes for our short film, defining the plot, selecting the songs, writing the dialogue, and planning stage directions. We also determined the locations for each scene and decided where to use green screen backgrounds to enhance certain moments.
As a group, we prepared to create our short film about an ancient civilization. We chose the early Egyptcian civilization and then we did reaserch about the Geography,Religion, Acheivments,Politics, Economics, and the Society so we could plan what our movie would be about.
In this video, I recreated the life of Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt’s most powerful and successful pharaohs. Through a series of reenactments, visuals, and narration, I highlighted key moments of her reign, from her rise to power to her accomplishments as a ruler. I explored her efforts to expand trade, build monumental structures, and establish Egypt’s influence during her time. The video also delves into the challenges she faced as a female pharaoh in a male-dominated society and how she navigated those obstacles to become one of Egypt’s most celebrated leaders. My goal was to bring Hatshepsut’s story to life and show the lasting impact of her leadership on ancient Egypt.
In Geometry, my partner Loriel Edwards and I researched ancient Egypt, focusing on the pyramids and the geometric principles behind their construction. We explored how the landscape and architecture defined the civilization, examining the shapes and structures that made Egyptian design so iconic. Our presentation included background information and answered five key questions about the historical architecture, highlighting the geometric shapes found in the pyramids and other structures. To connect this project with our literature class, we used the architectural drawings we created as visual backgrounds in a short film, blending math, history, and storytelling in a creative way.
