DRC Model United Nations
Daulat Ram College hosted its vibrant Model United Nations on November 16, 2024, organized by Éclat, the Economics Association, and Yuva Manthan MUN. The theme of the conference was Viksit Bharat: Innovation and Environment. The honoured guests for this special event were Dr Shankar Kumar, a guest speaker from Hindu College and Mr Dinendra Kashyap, an IIM Bangalore alum and Senior Analyst at the National Technical Research Organization.
There were two prominent committees for this one-day event namely UNGA and Lok Sabha. The UNGA committee debated “Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050: Innovative Policies for a Sustainable Future,” while the Lok Sabha committee discussed “Crafting a Roadmap of Viksit Bharat 2047 through the Lens of National Youth Policy.” The event fostered critical thinking, leadership, and collaboration on significant global and national issues.
Opening Ceremony: The event commenced with an inspiring opening ceremony featuring ceremonial lamp lighting by honoured guests and speeches by eloquent speakers Dr Pooja Sharma, Dr Shankar Kumar and Mr Dinendra Kashyap, who delivered motivating speeches encouraging delegates to maximize learning opportunities.
Closing ceremony: The closing ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the event, with faculty members recognizing the hard work and dedication of both the delegates and the organizers. Resolutions from each committee were shared, and awards were presented to outstanding delegates. Secretary-General Charvi Behl encouraged participants to remain engaged with global issues and continue their efforts to make a positive impact.
Overall, the Daulat Ram College MUN 2024 empowered students by promoting dialogue, critical thinking, and leadership development, while encouraging a collective commitment to tackling important global challenges.
Seminar on Critical Thinking
Éclat, Daulat Ram College's economics association, hosted a thought-provoking session on Tuesday, October 15 2024 in collaboration with JIMS AND Eminent Strategy, led by Dr.Sheetal Chadha, a Business & Marketing expert with an MBA (Gold Medallist) and PhD from FMS Delhi on Critical Thinking and Design Thinking. She has consulted for the Government of India. She is a co-founder of CareerClink and has extensive experience in delivering management development programs for organisations like the Ministry of External Affairs, GAIL, and PNB.
Dr.Chadha emphasised the importance of integrating rigorous analysis with creative ideation to develop comprehensive strategies that drive effective problem-solving across various domains. This approach emphasizes the synergy between two distinct yet complementary thinking processes: critical thinking and design thinking and how by integrating the two, professionals can create solutions that are not only innovative but also grounded in reality, leading to more sustainable and impactful outcomes across diverse fields.
The session was filled with insightful case studies designed to inspire and motivate students, providing real-world examples of how critical and design thinking can be applied to solve complex problems effectively. The seminar concluded with an engaging and dynamic interactive discussion that motivated them to apply these skills in their academic and personal endeavours and inspired them to innovate, collaborate, and excel in their future pursuits.
Seminar on 21st Century Soft Skills
Éclat, the Economics Association of Daulat Ram College, organized an engaging session on 21st Century Soft Skills and the 7 C’s of Business Communication on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The event, held in collaboration with GIMS and Eminent Strategy, was led by Shirley Rex, a PhD scholar at Jamia Hamdard University, with four years of corporate experience at KPMG and an additional four years in academia. Ms. Rex has published two Scopus-indexed papers and edited multiple books. She is a Corporate Trainer specializing in soft skills for placements, and she has also played a key role in organizing prestigious events such as international management conferences and TEDx.
This seminar effectively highlighted the critical role of effective communication and adaptability in achieving long-term career success. It offered valuable tools to help students build their confidence, providing practical strategies to communicate with clarity, adapt to ever-changing environments, and tackle challenges with increased self-assurance. The seminar underscored the importance of soft skills, asserting that they are just as essential as technical expertise in the professional world. These skills are vital for cultivating confidence, developing leadership qualities, and maintaining professionalism in the workplace.
The seminar concluded with a dynamic Q&A session where students actively participated, posing questions about real-world applications of soft skills in interviews, internships, and professional life. Ms. Rex shared how by refining these abilities, students can enhance their self-confidence and greatly improve their employability, ensuring they are fully prepared for the demands of the 21st-century workforce. Students left inspired to enhance their soft skills, understanding that technical knowledge alone is not enough in today’s competitive environment.
Navigating Path Abroad
Éclat, Daulat Ram College's Economics Association, hosted an engaging Navigating the Path Abroad session on Saturday, 9th November 2024. The event featured Faguni Awasthi, Éclat’s former president, who is currently pursuing an MSc in Business Analytics at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Dublin.
Faguni shared her inspiring journey from Daulat Ram College to studying abroad, offering invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities of international education. She candidly discussed her experiences, from preparing for applications to adapting to a new country.
The session provided a platform for students to ask questions and gain clarity about the path to global academic success. With its mix of practical advice and personal anecdotes, the conversation left attendees feeling motivated and better equipped to navigate their journeys abroad. It was a memorable and enriching experience for all who participated.
Mastering Skills before B-School
Éclat, Daulat Ram College's economics association, conducted an insightful workshop on Mastering Skills Before B-School, led by Dr. Parul Malik, a seasoned soft skills trainer and corporate development specialist.
Dr Malik, who heads the Corporate Skills Development department at NDIM, shared her expertise on bridging skills gaps for students aspiring to excel in business schools. The session covered essential workplace readiness, enhancing employability, and fostering entrepreneurial mindsets.
A key highlight was her advice on excelling in MBA interviews. Dr. Malik outlined strategies for effective self-presentation, tackling common interview questions, and showcasing unique strengths to leave a lasting impression.
With practical tips and engaging discussions, the workshop emphasized the importance of communication, time management, and adaptability. Attendees were left equipped with actionable insights to refine their skills and confidently navigate their academic and professional journeys.
