September 2025
With homecoming next week, many people are stressing about what to wear. While everyone wants to make a statement about their style, there will always be common trends. Social media, dress stores, and what’s been trending this past year has allowed us to predict what they’ll be.
1. Glitter
Glitter Glitter Glitter! A staple in crafts, makeup, decor, and this year, homecoming! Glitter always catches eyes, so even if multiple people wear glitter dresses or shoes, they would be noticed, making it a great choice. But the question is, why do I think it’ll be common this year? Well, with the 2000s having come back into style, many people are opting for a cool, vintage, classic look.
2. Patterns
You may be wondering what I mean by patterns, I’m not talking stripes or flannel (thank goodness, unless that’s what you’re into). If you were on social media last year you know about THE Sherri Hill, blue and white floral dress. I believe because of how popular that particular dress was, many brands have been using it for inspiration for all kinds of dresses. Not only will floral be popular this year, polka dots will be too! The reason for this is that in the spring, polka dot nails were all over pinterest, and this is an easy way to coordinate. Polka dots are also timeless, but on dresses for homecoming? That’s new and hasn’t really been done until now.
3. Unique Silhouettes
Drop waists, puffy skirts, and asymmetry, oh my! Unique silhouettes are gorgeous and are used to accentuate certain parts of the body making them a staple in fashion. Drop waists and puffy skirts focus on the waist and hips, which is flattering and exudes confidence. Asymmetrical skirts, whether that means a slit or one side being longer than the other defines your legs, which is a go-to if your legs are long. I feel like whimsy and eccentricity is being embraced this year which is why unique silhouettes will be popular, there’s so many ways to incorporate them!
4. Jewel Tones
Bye bye pastels! I love jewel tones. Everyone looks good in them no matter their skin or undertone making them very reliable. With autumn coming around I think merlot red will be especially popular this year. Red has also been proven to draw attention so it’s an enticing color to grab off the shelf. It’s easily paired with cream or black which are easy shoe and nail colors. Of course with our colors being navy and gold, sapphire is a great color to choose when opting for a simple dress that doesn’t require much thought. It can also be bright and bold, it doesn’t have to be dark which makes it optimal for those who want to make a statement and not look particularly gloomy. I feel like everyone has gained some confidence this year and jewel tones radiate that, making them a desirable choice!
5. Bonus
Some friends requested for certain ratings on clothing pieces, and I’m here to give advice. First off, knee-high converse/quad-high converse. These are cute, but they need to be styled in a very certain way. Think fishnet tights, horizontally striped socks that are a bright color and black, and miniskirts. 8/10, cute, interesting silhouette, however hard to style. Next is pin-bombing. Honestly, I think pin-bombing could be cute, however it depends on where you put it. I prefer it on hoodies, jackets, and cardigans. It’s a cute addition, pins are cheap so you’re not spending too much money, and your clothes have more personality. 6/10, cute, but I wouldn’t wear it personally. Lastly, crocs with socks. In all honesty, I don’t like crocs, however, socks with crocs don’t sit right with me. It’s the equivalent of socks with flip flops. Now, some people can make this cute, with the charms, colors, and sock silhouette. 4/10, not for me, but some people make it cute.
