Universal Screening - Kinder and 2nd grade

 The Gifted and Talented (GT) Department implements a universal screening each fall semester to aid in the identification and programming of students for the purpose of gifted education services.  All DPS students in grades kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th are included in the screening for Gifted and Talented services and/or identification.

Kinder- November 6, 7 and 8 using NNAT3 test

2nd grade - November 13,14 and 15 using NGAT test

If you are NOT interested in your student to take the test, please fill out OPT OUT FORM.

The Early Access Application process is open to families residing in Denver County and/or families whose students are already attending a DPS school (including charters) for preschool. 



  Testing Information

Universal Screening -Kinder and 2nd grade

All DPS students who are enrolled in kindergarten and 2nd grade will be administered a universal screening with the Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test (NNAT3), the Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT). For more information click here

SOAR Testing Dates:

Kinder: November 6,7 and 8

2nd grade: November 12, 13 and 14

Families have the right to opt their child out of testing. Opt outs may be submitted to the Opt Out Form, or in a letter or email to the GT teacher. All opt-outs MUST be in writing .

Nominate your child for magnet eligibility


Students who are in the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades may participate in nominated cognitive testing. Families or teachers (with parent/guardian's permission) may nominate a child for testing by submitting the Google Form

Students nominated for cognitive testing will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), which assesses students on three subtests: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal.


The deadline for fall CogAT testing nominations is fast approaching. No nominations will be accepted following the October 13 deadline.
