About Mrs. Smith

Mrs. Smith is the Instrumental Music teacher at Skinner Middle School. She currently teaches the Beginning Band, Concert Band, Beginning Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Jazz Band. This is her second year at Skinner and 11th year teaching music. Previously, Mrs. Smith was a music teacher for 6 years at North High School where she taught Jazz Band, Concert Band, Beginning Band, Orchestra, and Drumline. She also taught Mariachi, Piano, pre-AP Music Theory, AP Music Theory and choir. Prior to North, Mrs. Smith taught middle school choir in Maricopa, Arizona. She has a degree in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her primary instrument is the flute.

Mrs. Smith is honored to have received the Mile High Teacher Award in 2011, 9News 9Teachers Who Care Award in February 2014, and to have had the opportunity to present at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference in January 2016. Mrs. Smith is most passionate about ensuring all students have a safe and fun place to learn an instrument, build relationships, appreciate and perform the music of their own culture and the many cultures around them, and most importantly, express themselves fully through the art of music.

In addition to her passion for music and teaching, Mrs. Smith enjoys exploring Colorado by hiking, camping, running and participating in adventure/obstacle races. She also enjoys spending time with her husband Ryan, daughter Sage and their dog, Zara.
