Reading

This week we will be focusing on:

Phonics:

This week we will be reviewing our sh digraphs. This will give students an opportunity to practice completing work with Seesaw.

Review Memory Words:

there, from, be, to, we, or

Students need to be able to read and write our memory words.

Comprehension:

  • Identify the problem and solution.
  • Discuss cause and effect situations in our story
  • Compare and contrast people, events, and stories
  • Sequencing the events in a story. What happened first, next, and last.
  • Identify and describe the characters in the story.

Ways to Help at Home:

As you read at home with your child be sure to ask them questions. Here are a few questions to use as you are reading.

  • Who are the characters in the story?
  • Who is the most important character in the story? How do you know?
  • What happened after ___________________?
  • What happened before _________________?
  • Tell me what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
  • How did the character feel when __________ happened?
  • Which words in the story help you know how the character is feeling?
  • How would you feel if __________ happened to you?
  • Can you make any connections to the characters in the story?
  • How did this story make you feel? Why?
  • What was the main idea of the story?
  • What are some key details that support the main idea in the story?
  • Was there a problem in the story? What was a problem in the story?
      • How did the character try to solve the problem? Did it work? Why or why not?
      • How would you have solved the problem?
  • Did you enjoy the story? Why or why not?
  • Would you recommend this story to a friend? Why or why not?



Math

This week we will be reviewing our addition strategies.

Current Strategies:

  • Number Rack
  • Counting on
  • Counting back
  • Doubles
  • Doubles plus or minus one
  • 10-Frame

At home be sure to have you child explain their strategy.

This week will be reviewing and learning how to use our resources.

Writing

Students will be working on personal narratives this week. With our personal narratives we will make sure to share an event from our own lives. With this students will need to include a beginning, middle, and end. As they are writing they will be encouraged to use the attached writing rubric.
