Final Project

Queer Literature Final Exam Project

DUE: Friday 12/15 TOTAL: 100 Points

Instructions: This will serve as a major portion of the semester final. You can choose or develop an option from the list below. Each project will come with a brief presentation about your findings unless otherwise stated.

Option 1: Write a typical academic essay evaluating, reviewing, and/or arguing a current event in the queer community. You must use/cite AT LEAST six sources. Length 5-8 pages.

Option 2: Create a mini-documentary about an event, organization, or individual that has had a major impact on the queer community in the last twenty years. The documentary should be created as an argument and will be shown (in place of) a presentation. (5-10 minutes). Aside from the documentary, you need to turn in a script OR storyboard on the due date.

Option 3: Write a literary analysis of one text we have read OR comparing two texts we have read this semester. The analysis can be a basic comparison or analysis of theme, character, plot, symbolism… or can be a critical approach to the text(s) using psychoanalysis, Marxism, new historicism….You should use three sources aside from the text(s). 5-8 pages

Option 4: Write, direct, and perform a scene using themes, ideas, and characters we have encountered in our reading. The scene should be memorized, blocked, and performed in class on the day of the final exam (12/19). The scene should be 6-10 minutes in length. You can use performers from class or outside of class; however, this is an individual project.

Option 5: Create your own social media platform filling the needs of the queer community. You need to think of the idea/audience, branding, advertising, and all the platforms you will use. This should be a live platform to bring awareness to a certain issue, group, or event for the queer community. It should be your very own creation, so you will need to crosscheck other platforms to avoid copying. You must use more than one “networking” website, and design a “campaign” website using a free web service in order to link to your platform and inform the audience about your cause. (Good Example: It Gets Better Campaign).

Option 6: Another option not included above. This can be combining ideas from the five options above, or changing the format (ex: Paper to Documentary).

DUE FRIDAY 12/1: You must notify Mr. Cohen of your option for approval by this date.

**You will have some class time to work on your project, but much will be done outside of class.

Presentations will begin on Friday 12/15 and finish on 12/19. All scenes will be performed on 12/19 (unless we have many groups performing scenes; plan on being ready by the 15th!).
