Engaging in Service Fest
Gavin Denning 11/18/2024
As we welcome in the crisp autumn weather, members of Wisconsin DECA across the state are making a difference in their local communities this November. If you are looking to enhance your chapter’s activities or involve yourself with this amazing initiative, here are some tips and tricks to make your Service Fest a success!
Why Service Matters
Engaging in community service is not just about giving back; it’s about fostering leadership, building connections, and developing the skills that define Wisconsin DECA members. Through service, you will learn the importance of collaboration, empathy, and strategic thinking- qualities that have a direct application to the business world. By participating in Service Fest, you have the chance to not only support your community but also to grow personally and professionally.
Community members have a keen ability to remember the names and faces of young leaders making a difference at the local level. By engaging in Service Fest this year, your network will grow, opening doors to future opportunities that can give you a headstart as you grow into a successful leader.
Unique Service Opportunities
This November, spend some time participating in events that your chapter does not regularly host. When it comes to Service Fest, the simpler the event, the better! The goal of Service Fest is to get as active as possible in your community, and that goal can take form in many ways. Here are some simple, yet effective, service ideas to make a meaningful impact in your community:
Color a Smile: This amazing service opportunity is a great way to brighten the world, but also engage in multiple Wisconsin DECA initiatives at once! Head to colorasmile.org to get started!
Community Clean-Up: Organize a day for your chapter to beautify your local parks or neighborhoods. Not only does this improve your environment, but it also promotes community pride.
Care Packages for the Homeless: Assemble care packages with toiletries, snacks, and warm clothing items to distribute to homeless individuals in your area.
Story Time at Local Libraries: Organize a reading event at a library where DECA members read to children.
Holiday Card Making: Host a card-making event where members create holiday cards for residents of nursing homes or hospitals. Personal touches can brighten someone’s day!
Share Your Impact
We want to hear about your efforts! Throughout November, take photos and share your experiences on social media using the hashtag #widecasf24. By showcasing your chapter’s activities, you inspire others to get involved and highlight the collective power of DECA members across the state.
Recognition
To celebrate your hard work and dedication, Wisconsin DECA will recognize chapters that participate in at least one Service Fest event with a ribbon at SCDC in February. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition for your chapter and the meaningful work you do.
Good luck with your efforts this Service Fest! Wisconsin DECA can’t wait to see the success your chapter has and the impact you make on your community.
