How Oconomowoc DECA Prepares For State

Oconomowoc High School DECA prioritizes competition preparation through mock competitions, regular practice sessions, and mandatory training to ensure members are ready to succeed.
At Oconomowoc High School we make preparation for competition very important. There are a vast majority of different preparation opportunities that help get students prepared for competition.
Our first step in preparation begins in October when Oconomowoc hosts a Mock Competition. We have business people and other volunteers come in as judges and we run a practice role play competition for our members. They are given a role play and prep time, as well as, expected to dress ready for success. The competition is run very similar to district and our new competitors get to understand what competition is like and get some practice.
We then began our district's prep sessions. These are held multiple times a week, during school, after school, and later at night to cater to all who need to prep. This allows our competitors to become more prepared and help them achieve and succeed. Each competitor is also required to attend at least two practice sessions as well as take two practice tests. This is mandatory before the competition so we can ensure our competitors are familiar with the scope of competition.
Districts itself is also a great practice for our competitors as it is a smaller competition so they can start at an easier pace. Once state competitors have been determined we expect them all to do at least 5 practices before they leave to go. They need as much prep as possible. So, overall our chapter strives to make sure our competitors are as prepared as possible when it comes to competition and making them the most successful they can be!
