Standards

The standards define what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do by the end of each grade and course.

K-12 Social Studies Standards

North Carolina's Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) defines the appropriate content standards for each grade level to provide a uniform set of learning standards for every public school in North Carolina. The standards define what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do by the end of each grade and course. The goal of the standards is to prepare all students to become career, college, and civic ready. Textbooks, digital tools, and other curricula are the means to teach the standards. Local school leaders make decisions about the comprehensive curriculum that is determined to be delivered to students, so they can meet the expectations of the content standards for every grade and subject.
