Public Review of Proposed Standards Revisions

K-12 Social Studies Standards Public Review Draft Documents

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is currently in the process of revising the Standard Course of Study (SCOS) for K-12 Social Studies. This work is part of the State Board of Education (SBE) Policy SCOS-012. During its July 2020 meeting the SBE decided to delay adoption of the revisions proposed for the K-12 Social Studies Standard Course of Study.

Since July 2020, the NCDPI team has been working to revise Draft 3 of the proposed Social Studies standards revisions to meet the changes requested by the State Board of Education. The changes made concern adding explicit language to articulate the inclusion of the voices and experiences of all people.

Within the chart below you will have access to Draft 2, Draft 3, and Draft 4. In the Changes from Draft 3 to Draft 4 document, you will be able to see the language from Draft 3 compared to that included in Draft 4. In the Draft 4 PDF, you will be able to see all standards and objectives for a particular course in one spot.
