Diverse Learning Needs

MacKillop Gold is a multi-categorical setting is for students that require specialised interventions in a modern engaging learning space. The setting has a main classroom with several break out rooms for reading intervention, maths intervention and a sensory room.

St Benedict’s runs a discrete reading intervention program ‘Macqlit’ that was developed by Macquarie University using evidence based research. We have seen great success with this program, with our first cohort of candidates all passing their HSC Minimum Standards Testing for reading.

A social skills intervention program ‘Secret Agent Society’ was also delivered to a small group of junior students during a ten week period. This program looks at social skills in a school setting, recognising anger and anxiety triggers and strategies to manage these emotions.

The program also comes with a parent handbook so parents can be involved in the process, reading up on session content and reinforcing the same strategies at home.

Assessment support is also available for students on a weekly basis, with 1:1 support available on request.
