Student Reflection
What is a dream? I have chosen Matthew 2:13-15, ‘The Flight to Egypt’. My artwork is the angel warning Joseph to go to Egypt. The left window shows his dream of King Herod and the right window shows himself, Mary and Jesus travelling to Egypt.
My artwork shows the struggles and confusion that Joseph had to go through. I wanted to show the worry he had for Mary and Jesus as he sat there. I also represent Joseph’s purpose and connection with God. The words “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” Joseph knew he had a job to do and he did it. My artwork shows the moment he chooses to keep his family safe. Just like my family did during the bushfires. We couldn’t go home because of the fires, so we had to go a different path so that we would be safe. This experience helped me appreciate the struggles of Joseph. I was inspired by Zachary Rollins’ Stations of the Cross and his use of no facial expressions.
