Student Reflection
My chosen scriptures, Matthew 1:18-25 and 2:9-12 connect to my life. The use of Mary and Jesus as the subject symbolises a mother and child relationship, mirroring the strong bond I have with my mum.
During the process of creating my digitally hand-drawn artwork, I was able to add highlights to create a glow surrounding Jesus to capture his significance and what he means for the world and his own mother. The subtle tears of Mary reflect the joy she has in her heart for her newly born son. Similarly, my mother received the gift of motherhood when she had me. In the backdrop, upon Mary’s veil, there is the silhouette of the Three Wise Men travelling on camels. Camels are a symbol of patience and endurance, showing the slow journey Mary and Joseph encountered on their way to Bethlehem. My mum had to patiently wait for me to be born, enduring the journey of pregnancy. Mary, mother of Jesus, makes me think of my mother who holds me tight in her arms with everlasting love. She guides me through every step of my life and we have a never ending connection that will last forever.
