Harvest Moon Festival
11-18-20 - COVID-19 may have stopped many fun things from occurring in our little community, but the Dover Union Free School District’s food service staff were determined that it wouldn't stop Dover’s tradition of providing a pre-Thanksgiving celebration for our local senior residents. The Dover District has been hosting the Harvest Moon Festival for more than 15 years. In non-COVID years, senior residents would come to the high school complex and be treated to a full Thanksgiving meal; however, because of restrictions on public events, this year's meals were delivered to the doorstep of anyone who reserved a dinner.
Thanks to the hard work and determination of food service staff, Lynn Cramer, Carol Jankowski and Michelle Bouton, over 125 meals were prepared and packaged for delivery. The meals included a feast of roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and butter, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for dessert. Reservations were made with Ellen DeYorio in the high school office and the deliveries of the meals were done by Susan Langton and Debbie Slyter from First Student.
We hope that everyone who received a meal enjoyed it and look forward to next year when things return to normal and everyone will be able to attend the Harvest Moon Festival in person!
