Justin serves as the Deputy Health Director and Chief of Epidemiology and Preparedness at the Douglas County Health Department in Omaha, Nebraska. As Deputy Director and Chief, he oversees critical areas, including infectious disease epidemiology, emergency response, health data, lead prevention, and the office of administration and finance. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwest Missouri State University in 2003. He furthered his education by completing a Master of Public Health in Administration from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health 2011.
Justin's expertise in public health is nationally recognized, as evidenced by his Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential awarded by the National Board of Public Health Examiners. He is also a distinguished member of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. Moreover, Justin has made substantial contributions beyond his supervisory role. He has served as a content expert for the National Board of Public Health Examiners, providing valuable insights for the national certification exam through job task analyses. Additionally, he actively engages as a site visitor for the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). He is pursuing his Doctorate in Public Health with a concentration in Emergency Preparedness at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Justin's professional reputation has recently led to an invitation to join the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network with the World Health Organization, further solidifying his influence on the global stage. With a remarkable career spanning over 20 years in public health practice, Justin has cultivated expertise in epidemiology, specializing in infectious disease control, emerging infectious diseases, and emergency response.
My public health interests encompass a wide range of crucial areas. I have a particular passion for emerging infectious diseases and epidemiology, dedicating my efforts to understanding and addressing evolving health threats. Additionally, I actively engage in outbreak response and the management of public health emergencies, aiming to minimize their impact on communities.
With a deep concern for the effects of global warming on public health, I advocate for sustainable and climate-resilient strategies. Vector-borne diseases, influenced by environmental factors, also captivate my interest.
I am dedicated to promoting disease prevention and mitigation strategies, recognizing the importance of proactive measures in reducing the burden of illness on individuals and communities. Moreover, I actively contribute to global responses to public health challenges, collaborating on a global scale.
Public health education holds a significant place in my pursuits, as I firmly believe in empowering individuals and communities with knowledge and skills to make informed health decisions.
