The Dorset Studio School is a thriving 11-16 school for students who wish to pursue careers in the Land and Environment Sectors. Praised by OFSTED for our focus on stretching our more able pupils, the school nonetheless welcomes students of all abilities. Located in Dorchester, in the heart of Dorset, the school is set within the beautiful 750 acre Kingston Maurward College campus. Our students will become professionals in Equine Care, Veterinary Nursing, Farming, Rural Craft, Environmental and Countryside Management; as well as a host of other related careers. In preparing them to take their place as part of a burgeoning industry in a global economy we support them to be able to demonstrate Pride, Compassion and Teamwork in all that they do. We ask our students to SMILE (‘Sit and Stand up straight’, demonstrate good ‘Manners’ and a positive ‘Mindset,’ to follow ‘Instructions,’ to ‘Listen’ to others and to ‘Engage’ in lessons).
Dorset Studio School's bespoke curriculum offers all students the opportunity to study and achieve a minimum of nine academic and vocational qualifications at GCSE equivalence.
The curriculum delivered at Key Stage 3 includes the traditional core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education as well as Music, Art, IT and MFL. In addition to this, our pupils also follow bespoke courses in Land and Animal Management, Synoptic Studies and Forest School.
At Key Stage 4, Students work towards qualifications in the core subjects of English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science (Double Award or 3 Single Sciences for the more able), Geography, Animal Care, Land Based Studies and Travel and Tourism. This will enable students to progress in a variety of directions Post-16.
